A Welshie Big Adventure in Scotland

It was an outstanding day full of Welsh terriers for our Scottish Welsh walk. Louise organized the walk at Callendar House and it was a wonderful place for the dogs to romp and play.

I genuinely enjoyed meeting new people, chatting about our dogs, and sharing experiences. For the dogs, it was another chance to connect with their own kind.

The chance to let Maisie off lead with the other dogs and watch her run free was worth it all. Running free at home is limited because very few places allow dogs off leash.

But here in the UK, it is common for well-behaved dogs to be off lead, romping and exploring without fear of being in trouble.

Looking like royalty, Maisie and Winston pose next to Flint and Meg.

And these dogs, as I have mentioned before, have excellent recall. While Brian was worried about letting Maisie go, I felt confident that she would stick with her Welsh pack and come when called.

I practiced with her at the onset by recalling her with treats. She gladly came back and retrieved a treat before bounding off with her new Welsh friends.

Winston was frustrated at not being able to go off lead but he is so unpredictable with other dogs that I couldn't risk an altercation.

As Brian and Winston walked along, I glanced back and could tell he was feeling left out of the fun. Sorry as I was for him, I just would not risk the chance of something going wrong.

At the end of the day we drove home to Gargunnock and both dogs came inside and collapsed. With all the running and sniffing that Maisie did over the course of a couple hours, she was so tired she didn't move until the next morning.

I want to extend a special thanks to Louise for offering to organize this walk when we were in town, and for sharing her photos of Maisie and Winston. It gave me the chance to meet some new people and it gave the dogs a chance to interact with some of their own breed. We all walked away happier, and also wishing that we could have another walk the next day.
