Rainy Day

There is something delicious about a rainy day during the summer. I love the sound it makes hitting the roof on the cottage and the chance to sit on the porch feeling the moisture but not getting wet.

Rain means sitting inside (or outside) without a drop of guilt, reading a good book, or perusing several of the magazines stacked on the cocktail table in the living room.

For my dogs, Maisie and Winston, it means a day spent with their mom. Even though they too love summers in Northern Michigan, they sometimes get bothered by the number of times they are left at home while I go out to explore or spend time with friends. But a rainy day means mom stays home and they get extra attention.

This summer has been both warm and dry in much of the US. And it shows in the dried grasses and dead or dying ferns around the cottage. Smokey the Bear's elevated fire warnings make me nervous since there is a woods across the street from me and our house is entirely made of wood. Yet another reason why I am happy for a rain day.

Today's steady rain is a godsend for the plants, a 'mom day' for the dogs, and a reading day for me. I wonder if it is raining or sunny where you are today, and, how do you spend rainy days where you live?

It doesn't have to be raining to have a craving for a day filled with reading good books. If you are looking for book recommendations, I have several to suggest, so check out the Book Review section of Adventures in Life. And, if you have any great books to suggest, please add them to the comments at the end of this post.
