The Locked Door by Freida McFadden

The Locked Door
A great audio book.

We listened to The Locked Door, a psychological thriller by Freida McFadden, during an eight-hour drive.  It was a good thing that I was not driving because there were several times when I had to cover my eyes (while listening) because it was that scary.

Nora spent the first twelve years of her life with a serial killer for a father.  As a young child, she was told not to disturb her father in the basement, that it was his workshop.  While she loved both her parents tremendously, but she could never figure out why her father spent so much time down there.  When her mother said that he was doing woodworking she began to wonder where the furniture was that he was making. Only one poorly made chair ever appeared.

When she was twelve, her father was caught, and both her parents were sent to prison.  Flash forward twenty-six years later, and people begin to die in a similar manner as her father’s victims.  Is it a copy-cat killer?  Why are all the women related in some way to Nora’s work as a surgeon?

With no one to turn to and too many possibilities to consider, Nora is filled with anxiety and confusion.  The suspense keeps the listener engaged until the very last plot twist.  The Locked Door made our drive fly by keeping us on the edge of our seats the entire time.

Frieda McFadden has written many thrillers, and we look forward to listening to another on our next long drive.
