The Carnival and Autocross Edition

Start of the first heat of Autocross.
First heat of the night of Autocross.

Last week I posted photos of the Emmett County Fair that I visited a couple weeks ago. Part of visiting the fair in America are the carnival rides, the fried food, and the evening shows. This year my local fair had a rodeo for the first time, and the tickets sold out before I could buy them.

While disappointing, I did get to see my yearly dose of autocross, and it was even better than last year's. The sand trap managed to cause enough entrants to breakdown that the organizers brought in a bucket loader to scoop a lot of sand out of the trap.

This helped to ease the breakdowns on that particular stretch of the track, but the drivers were aggressive, and we saw more crashes and overturned cars than ever before. After three hours of racing, we had not reached the final heat of the night, and our dogs were home waiting for their dinner.

So, we drove home, fed the dogs, and then sat on our porch listening to the sounds of the cars racing on the oval several miles away.

Fried dough with half cinnamon sugar and half powdered sugar.
Unable to decide which topping to get, Brian opted for half cinnamon sugar and half powdered sugar.

Without its tire, this one just stopped working. It was fork lifted up and off the course at the end of the race.

Pink car on its side.
As promised, the pink car continued to race but was done for by this crash.

cars racing with flat tire
There is something so fun about watching these determined drivers racing around the oval as their cars shed parts and lose tires.

car tipped on side with driver safe.
First car to tip over. There was a collective gasp in the stands, but the driver wiggled out the door on the top and waved at the fans. We all sent up a loud cheer.
